NIGERIA: Police Uncover Illegal Arms Factory In Abuja
Nigeria police have uncovered illegal arms factory at its federal capital, Abuja.
The illegal arms factory was discovered and unveiled at Shenagu village, Abuja.
A police source revealed to Caral Reports that, the suspects operating in the factory were arrested based on a tip-off from residents in the area.
Security experts in the country have also connected the event to series of criminal activities in the country, including the ravaging IPOB activities.
But police, when contacted, said, there has not been any investigation to affirm the speculations.
“All that is been said now are still speculations until investigations are concluded. Our men are at their best to investigate as appropriate. Let us not be in hasty conclusion”, Aba Kyari, the head of police Intelligence Response Team said.
Meanwhile, new Commissioner of Police in charge of the FCT Police Command, CP Sadiq Abubabar Bello at the parade of the arrested suspects said three principal suspects have been arrested in connection with the illegal factory.
He mentioned their names as Philip John, owner of the factory, Mr. Onyegabueze Okpara, supplier of ammunition and Joseph Bulus, distributor of the arms.
Sadi said the factory has been in operation to empower criminality in the country for over 17 years.
Items which police recovered from the suspects are: four Dane guns, one single barrel gun, locally fabricated revolver pistol cylinder, one double barrel gun, two calibers live cartridge and six Dane gun muzzles, four single barrel muzzles, one dice for retreat, two gun muzzle spring, one manual motor drill, six-barrel gun frame and others.
Police said some of the suspects have already confessed to the crime.
“John confessed to having been in the illicit business for 17 years and selling the fabricated single-barrel guns and Dane gun for N20, 000 and N10, 000 respectively”.
“Okpara, who disguised as a bicycle spare parts dealer was arrested at Kaita market with the items which he concealed and sells to criminals”.
“He also sells a pack containing 25 pieces of live cartridge for N12, 000, while single cartridge goes for N500”, police said.
Nigeria police, however, averred that the suspects will be charged to court on conclusion of a further investigation.
