More controversies have trailed the case of the former chairperson of Presidential Task Team on Pension Reforms, Abdulrasheed Maina on how he was reinstated with a promotion.

The scandal relating to the fugitive who is now on the run made headlines across the country last week. The president of the country, upon pressures from citizens, ordered the sack of the fugitive, Maina.

The development was also followed by an investigation into the case and report which the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Winifred Oyo-Ita was asked to submit.

Meanwhile, earlier, president Buhari had made people believe he was not aware of Maina’s reinstatement, adding that the deed was perpetrated behind the country’s number one citizen.

But in the report submitted by Oyo-Ita, President Buhari was indicted on the gameplay that saw Maina back into the civil service.

According to the HCSF in her report, the president was briefed on the development and the likely implication it may bring to his fight against corruption in Nigeria.

Some part of the letter, which was made available to our reporter read: “Please note that the OHCSF was never in agreement with the reinstatement and consequently never conveyed the approval of the FCSC to Mr. Maina, nor approved his posting to the ministry of interior or any other MDA. Rather, I sought the audience with His Excellency Mr. President on Wednesday, 11th October 2017, after the FEC Meeting where I briefed His Excellency verbally on the wide-ranging implications of the reinstatement of Mr. A.A Maina, especially the damaging impact on the anti-corruption stance of the administration”.

Findings by Caracal Reports showed that explanations in OHCFS’s reports corroborated claims by people in the country that the president knew about the reinstatement of the fugitive but only to pretend otherwise when activists in the country mounted Pressure on him.

Oyo-Ita’s report also seemed to have confirmed the claim by the chair of the country’s anti-graft agency (Economic and Financial Crimes Commissions), Mr. Ibrahim Magu.

Magu had claimed that some influential people in the country are currently shielding Maina from being arrested by the agency.

“He has people who are protecting him which made it difficult for us to get him arrested. You can imagine that he was promoted. It is very devastating, and it is beyond my understanding.”
Magu, however, confirmed that Maina had fled the country, adding that the commission is working with INTERPOL to ensure his repatriation.

Meanwhile, Senate has mandated President Muhammadu Buhari to bring those behind the reinstatement of the former chairman of Presidential Task Team on Pension Reforms, Abdulrasheed Maina,‎ to book without further delay.

The lawmakers mentioned the Attorney General of the Federation, AGF, and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami as well as the Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau, as being behind the development.

They demanded their sack from office over the case, which they believed, is capable of tarnishing the government’s image.
