Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court, Abuja, on Tuesday adjourned the re-arraignment of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafran (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, on amended terrorism charges, till Wednesday, January 19.

The development followed the lead defence lawyer, Mike Ozekhome (SAN) prayer, at the mention of the case, for more time to be given to him to enable him to study the amended 15-count charge filed by the prosecution on January 17, 2022.

Ozekhome argued that the defence was ambushed with the fresh charge by the prosecution.

In his response, the lead prosecuting lawyer, Magaji Labaran faulted the defence’s claim that the amended charge was an ambush as well as the defence lawyer’s claim that is not being properly fed, not allowed to practise his religion nor allowed free access to his family members.

Labaran, however, did not object to the request by Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyer for an adjournment.

Consequently, the presiding judge, Justice Binta Nyako, adjourned the matter till January 19 for arraignment on the amended charges.
