Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has said that President Muhammadu Buhari would not sign the amended Electoral Act recently retransmitted to him by the National Assembly.

Wike, who stated this on Saturday said, “Till now, Nigerians do not understand the modus operandi of the ruling party because every day they find excuses not to sign the amended Electoral Act.

“After all that the National Assembly has done, Buhari keeps refusing to sign the amended Act. I know it is because they are afraid of the provision on electronic transmission of election results in the Act. Mark my words, Buhari won’t still sign the amended Electoral Act.”

Wike spoke in Bayelsa State while inaugurating some projects executed by his counterpart, Governor Douye Diri, who is marking his two years anniversary as Bayelsa State governor.

Buhari had earlier refused to sign the Electoral Act Amended Bill after it was initially transmitted to him by the National Assembly.

He said he did not sign the bill because it only allowed indirect primary as the only mode for political parties to select candidates for election, promising to sign the bill if the National Assembly addressed the concern.

However, after the federal lawmakers addressed that by including direct primaries and consensus candidates as means for political parties to select their candidates, Buhari has still not given his approval to the bill.
