The Senate on Wednesday rejected  President Muhammadu Buhari’s request for the federal lawmakers to amend section 84 (12) of the Electoral Act which prevents appointive political office holders from contesting for election from party primary level without resigning.

The lawmakers shunned the request after the Senate Leader, Senator Yahaya Abdullahi (APC Kebbi North) made the lead debate for the second reading of the bill.

The senators, not allowing Abdullahi to land, kicked against the request.

When it was subjected to voice vote by Senate President Ahmad Lawan, those who voted for the request to be thrown out were in majority.
