Kogi Explosion: Three feared dead, many wounded
An explosion in Kabba, Kogi State, is said to have killed three people and wounded several more.
The blast occurred at a beer parlour near Lewu Junction in Kabba town on Wednesday night.
According to the Nigerian News Agency (NAN), the event occurred at 9.45 p.m., as people were having a good time in the beer parlour.
“I heard a loud sound not far from where I was and as I went there, I saw three bodies while the injured were taken to hospital.
“The injured were taken to St. John’s General Hospital in Kabba for medical attention,” the source explained.
A commercial motorbike rider, who identified himself simply as Dele said: “it was a bomb blast because the sound was so devastating as people died and several others were injured.”
“I saw how the victims were picked and taken to the hospital by security personnel in Kabba,” Dele said.
Mr Edward Egbuka, the State Commissioner of Police in Kogi, told NAN that indications suggested that the incident was caused by a gas explosion rather than a bomb.
Egbuka stated that police officers were on top of the issue and that additional information about the explosion will be released following investigations.
