The All Progressive Congress has been ditched by Zubairu Hamza Massu, the Deputy Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly (APC).
He is the fourth member of the APC in the House of Assembly to resign in the last three days.
The party has been struck by a wave of defections since Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje chose Nasiru Gawuna, his deputy, to succeed him.
Members of the APC from Kano South are alleged to be dissatisfied with Gawuna and Murtala Garo’s endorsements from Kano Central and Kano North, respectively, for the 2023 elections.
The deputy speaker, who represents Sumaila Local Government Area in Kano South in the assembly, announced his departure from the APC in a letter sent to the ward chairman of the APC, Massu town.
He added that he made the choice after consulting with his people and supporters about recent events in the party.
“Following recent happenings in the party coupled with series of meetings with my constituents, supporters, and stakeholders in Sumaila and Kano North in general, I write to tell you of my intention and decision to leave as a member of the APC,” Massu said.
According to the letter, the decision was made owing to unequal treatment, a lack of internal democracy, and a total marginalization of Kano South from a lot of opportunities.
