Soldier arrested for allegedly trying to sell ammunition to bandits in Zamfara
The Zamfara State Police Command detained a serving soldier, Nura Bala, with force number 19NA/78/3870, for reportedly attempting to sell munitions to bandits and cooperating with terrorists in the state.
The soldier was apprehended while negotiating with the robbers to sell them 1,000 rounds of ammo.
Investigations found that several weapons were missing from a military facility in the state’s Shinkafi Local Government Area, prompting officials to launch an investigation.
According to a military official who did not want his name printed, the soldier selling ammo submitted a confessional statement acknowledging the offense against him.
According to him, the soldier said that he intended to sell another round of ammo for N1 million before he was arrested.
“The military has a case of missing weapons at Forward Operations Base in Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamfara State. Investigation carried out on the case indicated that three soldiers were involved.
“The soldier confessed to selling about 100 rounds of 7.62 mm SP each at the rate of N100, 000 and promised to sell another quantity of about 1,000 rounds of the same ammunition to bandits at the rate of N1 million,” he said.
