2023: AfDB President, Akinwumi Adesina ‘submits’ APC Presidential form
Akinwumi Adesina, head of the African Development Bank (AfDB), has allegedly filed his expression of interest and presidential nomination papers to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Because Adesina’s assistants did not react to inquiries about the topic, it is unclear if he filed the form himself or had it done on his behalf.
Adesina is set to run for the governing party’s ticket with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and former Lagos governor Bola Tinubu.
Between May 30 and June 1, the ruling party’s delegates are likely to choose a presidential candidate.
A presidential spokesperson, Bashir Ahmad, confirmed that the AfDB president had filed his paperwork.
The form was purchased last week by a partnership of 28 organizations. One of the coalition’s founders, Ademola Babatunde, said they pooled their resources to buy the form since the APC’s costs are “outrageous.”
“We are 28 organizations,” Babatunde added, “that got together after a very serious conversation, debates on the way forward for a better and unified Nigeria.”
“Even though the money is exorbitant, we unanimously determined that if we genuinely desire a brighter future for ourselves and our children, as well as our place of birth and origin, we must pool our resources to get the paperwork for Dr. Akinwumi Adesina.”
