Ali Makoda, the governor of Kano state’s chief of staff, has defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

In 2019, Ganduje named Makoda as his chief of staff. Makoda has previously served as the environment commissioner.

He offered his resignation as chief of staff in April, but Ganduje turned it down.

He reportedly joined the NNPP on Friday night after meeting with Rabiu Kwankwaso, the state’s previous governor.

On the platform of the New Nigeria People’s Party, Kwankwaso is also a presidential candidate (NNPP).

Makoda and other defectors were claimed to have been met by Kwankwaso at his Miller Road mansion in Kano.

Makoda and other defectors are received by Kwankwaso. Badamasi Ayyuba, a member of the state house of representatives; Murtala Sule Kore, a member of the state house of assembly; and Alhaji Mamuda, chairman of Makoda LGA were among the APC members in the state who abandoned the ruling party with Makoda.

After meeting with Kwankwaso on Friday, Abdulmumin Jibrin, a former member of the House of Representatives and director-general of the Bola Tinubu support organization, was also claimed to have joined the NNPP.

Meanwhile, former Kano governor Ibrahim Shekarau is rumored to be considering joining the NNPP.
