Prepare for flight cancellations, airline operators warn Nigerians
The Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) has issued a warning to Nigerians that aircraft operations may be disrupted as the scarcity of aviation fuel known as Jet-Al intensifies.
According to the association’s spokeswoman, Obiora Okonkwo, the fuel shortage is hurting the smooth functioning of air transport operations, resulting in flight rescheduling and cancellations.
He said, “The Airline Operators of Nigeria wish to alert the public of impending disruptions to scheduled flight operations of members of the association. This development is being forced on members by the growing scarcity of aviation fuel popular as Jet-Al.
“The scarcity is impacting negatively on the seamless conduct of air transport operations and would lead to flight rescheduling, and, or, cancellations.”
However, Okomkwo stated that the organisation and its members were working diligently in collaboration with product marketers, the government, and other key stakeholders to ensure that aviation fuel was available and priced properly throughout the country.
“While requesting the flying public’s understanding in the face of this reality, we also commit to do all required, and within our ability, to restore regular flight schedules as soon as possible”, he continued.
