Bandits returns to Kaduna-Abuja highway, abduct travellers
Bandits returned to the Abuja-Kaduna highway on Tuesday evening and abducted hundreds of commuters in an operation that lasted about an hour.
Bandits barricaded the roadway between Kurnmin Kare and Katari in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State and abducted passengers from commercial and private cars, according to information received.
A youth corps member driving on the route was killed in a crossfire between robbers and security agents just days before.
According to a source, the incident occurred about 4 p.m., and the bandits had stormed Katari town in the early hours of Tuesday, abducting 16 people.
Security agents were reportedly deployed to the part of the road after the criminals made off with various items.
ASP Mohammed Jalige of the Kaduna State Police Command, speaking through the Police Public Relations Office, said he had yet to get confirmation from the area commander.
Bandits have blocked the 155-kilometer Kaduna-Abuja route many times, killing and abducting travelers.
Following the March 28th attack on the Abuja-Kaduna train, which resulted in the deaths of nine people and the kidnapping of over 60 passengers, security agents are claimed to have strengthened the road.
