Bloody rival cult clash leaves one dead in Lagos
Mr Olusegun Onilude, Chairman of Badagry Local Government, denounced the recent confrontations and fatalities in Badagry on Thursday.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), a battle between competing cult groups in Adaripon Ipage Compound, Badagry, Lagos State, on May 17, resulted in the death of a 36-year-old man.
In a statement issued by his Chief of Staff, Mr Sewedo Samuel, Onilude urged security agencies, traditional rulers, and other stakeholders to work together to combat cultism.
“It is unfortunate what the country is turning to. I am sure you will agree with me that insecurity is not solely a Badagry problem.
“Badagry is a community known for peace and I want to appeal to parents and guardians to warn their wards to desist from cultism,” he said.
Onilude praised security agencies for their efforts in ensuring peace and order.
He asked all parties to work together to safeguard the council’s law, peace, and order.
The meeting’s goal, according to the Chairman, was to debate and enhance joint efforts to prevent the collapse of law and order in Badagry, particularly during and after the primaries of various political parties.
He stated that the gathering will also discuss the safety of people of Badagry and its surrounds.
“Traditional rulers, representatives of the Nigerian Army, Navy, Air Force, Department of State Security, Nigerian Police, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, and others attended the conference” (NSCDC).
“Others include Correctional Centre, Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC), and National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) employees,” he said.
