Magu retired before new promotion was announced – Minister Maigari
Former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, was recently promoted to Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) upon his retirement, according to Minister of Police Affairs Maigari Dingyadi.
He revealed this on Thursday, when he appeared as a guest on the Presidential Communication Team’s weekly Ministerial Briefing at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
It will be noted that the Police Service Commission (PSC) accepted the former EFCC boss’s elevation on Monday, only days before he was set to retire from the Nigeria Police Force at the age of 60 on May 5, 2022.
Magu had been probed by a presidential commission led by Justice Ayo Salami, which has since issued a report recommending Magu’s retirement in 2020.
When questioned why he was promoted, the minister stated the answer would have to come from the PSC, which is under the Presidency.
However, he confirmed that Magu had already retired, saying that his retirement will not exempt him from disciplinary action if necessary.
