Bamidele Rasaq, an Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) employee, has been detained by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for allegedly vandalizing AEDC aluminum wires.

Rasaq, 45, and his accomplice Isiaka John, 40, were apprehended in Iyara, Ijumu Local Government Area, Kogi State.

Isiaka John, the second suspect, was previously a casual AEDC employee who was let go.

Suleman Ibrahim Mafara, the Kogi State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), paraded the suspects on Thursday, saying they had been in the filthy business for several years until luck ran out on them.

Rasaq confirmed to Mafara that he had destroyed the wires five times before being apprehended, according to Mafara.

“As my police received an informative tip regarding the evil conduct of this AEDC worker and his companion, we promptly lay an ambush on him when he attempted to vandalize another AEDC wire,” Mafara continued. Rasaq arrived on the 16th of May 2022, at 07:00 hours, to vandalize the AEDC wires, but his luck ran out before he was apprehended. The same Rasaq invited the second suspect (Isiaka John) to assist him in his vandalism business two months ago.”

He stated that AEDC’s management had been alerted about the illicit acts of one of its employees, which resulted in the termination of the suspect’s employment with the business.

“During our investigation, the management of AEDC identified Bamidele Rasaq as one of their staff. Interestingly, upon this confirmation, the suspect was served instant dismissal letter” he added.

He further stated that the command’s investigation will be completed soon and the suspects will be prosecuted in a court of law, emphasizing that this will serve as a deterrence to anybody planning to participate in criminal activities in Kogi State.

Mafara advised all criminal elements to leave Kogi State, while urging to the general population to watch the facilities put in their different places and report any questionable characters in their area.

While answering journalists’ queries, the two suspects acknowledged to perpetrating the crime.

Electrical wires, , pliers and a motorcycle were found from the suspects.
