Bandits release Kano village chief, kidnap university professor delivering ransom
Abdulyahyah Ilo, the Village Head of Karfi in Takai Local Government Area of Kano State, was allegedly given free by kidnappers on Friday.
Suspected gunmen opened fire on residents of the village on May 16, 2022, killing six people, kidnapping Ilo, and injuring numerous others.
Meanwhile, one of the kidnappers was apprehended by local security guards and vigilantes.
They insisted that their guy be released as a condition of his freedom.
His brother Yusuf Ismail also confirmed the traditional ruler’s release, saying he had been discharged and was being treated at a hospital.
SP Abdullahi Kiyawa of the Kano State Police Command’s Public Relations promised to respond for confirmation, but has yet to do so at the time of writing this article.
The kidnappers, however, held back an associate professor from Kano State University of Science and Technology (KSTU), Wudil, Huzaifa Karfi, who went to deliver the money for the village head’s release.
Musa Sa’ad, a local, verified that the village chief had been released by his kidnappers.
He claims that they were successful in collecting the ransom and that Dr Huzaifa in connection to their man that was captured by the vigilante group.
They demanded the release of their man as a condition to release him.
