Cleric allegedly murders 25-year-old woman
Ibadan’s Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court on Friday charged a priest, Abass Tiamiyu, for the alleged murder of Barajas Belahu, a 25-year-old woman.
Abass, a resident of Oroki, Oyo town, was charged with conspiracy and murder by the police.
Tiamiyu and another person at large killed Belahu on May 10 and 11 at Oyetoro Community, Oroki area, Oyo, according to the Prosecution Counsel, Insp Olusegun Adegboye.
”The victim was a client of the defendant. After murdering her, he dismembered her.
”He threw her remains in a sack and dumped her decomposing body by a stream,” Adegboye told the court.
According to Adegboye, the offense violates Section 316 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State 2000 and is penalized under Sections 319 and 324.
According to NAN, Chief Magistrate Emmanuel Idowu declined to hear Tiamiyu’s petition due to a lack of jurisdiction.
The remand, according to Idowu, is pending the outcome of legal advice from the Oyo State Ministry of Justice.
Magistrate Idowu ordered that the cleric be remanded in Abolongo correctional facility for alleged murder and adjourned the matter until July 19, for mention..
