PDP’s Adeleke defeats APC’s Gov Oyetola, wins Osun gov election

Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate, Senator Ademola Adeleke has won the Saturday, July 16, Osun State governorship election.
He defeated incumbent Governor Gboyega Oyetola, the All Progressives Congress’ candidate, to emerge the winner of the poll.
The PDP’s candidate won 17 of the 30 Local Government Areas in the exercise while Governor Adegboyega Oyetola won in the remaining 13 LGAs.
The results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission’s Chief Returning Officer, Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, showed that Adeleke polled 403,371 votes in the overall results from LGAs, while Oyetola got 375, 027 votes.
Though candidates from 15 political parties participated in the exercise, it was keenly contested between APC’s Oyetola and PDP’s Adeleke.
INEC said there were 5,305 Bimodal Voters Accreditation System (BVAS) and 332 Registration Areas (RAs) available for the election.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Prof. Abdulganiyu Raji stated this last week in preparations for the election.
The number of registration areas in Osun, according to INEC is 332 with 1,955,657 registered voters but only 335,298 collected their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
