Gunmen allegedly shot Audu Madaki, an assistant inspector-general of police (AIG).

Madaki who is the AIG in charge of the police command in Zone 12 was allegedly attacked by the thugs on Tuesday near Barde Zangidi on the Kaduna-Abuja route.

Although the facts of the incident are still murky, he was shot in the leg while his aide was murdered.

When reached for comment on the event, zone 12 police spokesperson Thomas Goni stated that he had yet to receive information about the attack.

“We are still waiting for the details of the incident,” he said.

“You know it did not happen within our jurisdiction here; it happened in Kaduna command, so I have been on the line with Kaduna to get the details from them.”

While verifying that the AIG is alive, Goni stated that facts concerning the event would be released after they are received from the Kaduna command.

The Kaduna police spokesperson, Mohammed Jalige, did not reply to calls and text messages seeking comment on the incident.

In recent years, the Kaduna-Abuja highway has become a haven for militants who raid automobiles, kidnap, and kill passengers.

The development comes on the heels of the country’s spiraling instability.

Senators have given President Muhammadu Buhari six weeks to fix the country’s security concerns or face impeachment.
