Following the worsening security situation across the country, Senate Leadership and service chiefs on Wednesday met in Abuja to seek a solution to the vexed issue.

Those at the meeting include the Chief of Defense Staff, Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Naval staff, Chief of Air Staff, DG DSS and a representative of the National Security Adviser.

The bi-partisan meeting, which was held behind closed doors centred on the raging insecurity in the country and how to address the menace.

Senate President Ahmad Lawan, speaking as the meeting commenced said that security agencies were doing their best, but that more can be done.

According to him, the security challenges have lingered and the Senate had hoped that the situation would have been better.

Noting that the situation has become frightening as there is nowhere to hide or go, Lawan stressed that the issue has become dire and it is time to come up with an effective solution, as the crisis is dislocating where the head of government is situated.

In his response, the Chief of Defense Staff, General Lucky Irabor told the leadership of the Senate that a lot is being done to improve security in the country.

He said the troops remained committed to the cause and that no one is leaving any stone unturned in addressing the challenge.

Recall that members of the National Assembly recently handed President Muhammadu Buhari a six-week ultimatum to address the security situation in the country or face impeachment.
