The Federal Government has formed a 12-person committee to work on the successful production and second launch of the Sports Book of Record, to document athletes’ accomplishments for posterity.

While inaugurating the committee today in his office in Abuja, the Honourable Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Sunday Dare, urged them to work tirelessly to ensure the production and launch of a one-stop shop document for the country’s sportsmen and women as well as their achievements, both past, and present.

This, he explained, is to guarantee that the athletes’ efforts and patriotic fervor are inscribed in gold and properly documented.

Dare, who was represented by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Ismaila Abubakar, tasked the Committee with being proactive and approaching the assignment with the utmost responsibility and patriotism, also urging them to bring their wealth of experience to bear in ensuring a successful production and launching of the Record Book.

According to him, the Sports Book of Record is a compendium that chronicles the accomplishments of Nigerian athletes over the years. “It is anticipated that it will act as a reference research resource for athletes and the younger generation,” he stated.

Dare outlined the committee’s terms of reference, which include, among other things, putting in place all the necessary logistics for a successful launch; identifying prominent Nigerian sports stakeholders and organizations that will sponsor the book; and suggesting names of sportsmen and women who will receive meritorious awards at the launch.

Ms. Victoria Agbo, Chairman of the Committee and Director, Planning, Research and Statistics (PRS) of the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, responded by thanking the Ministry’s leadership for the opportunity granted to them to serve in this capacity and pledged the Committee’s commitment to the successful production and launching of the Record Book.
