One person was allegedly killed and three others were injured following the lengthy leadership squabble that had rocked the village.

In the previous three years, factions in the community have been at odds over concerns stemming from the election of a new executive committee for the Ofuoma Community Development Union.

The deceased, named Mr. Felix Edenughe, who was the community’s Vice Youth Chairman before his death, was shot on Saturday night when the leadership squabble turned violent.

The circumstances surrounding the homicide were still murky at the time the report was filed.

According to a source, “They shot four people; one is dead. The problem has to do with the leadership tussle. It started in 2019. There are two quarters in the community, and one of them is to produce the President-General.

“They did the screening and they said some people were not qualified to contest the election. So, along the line, they went to the police station, even though the issue is in court now.

“They held the election, some people said they were not in support of it and it has been so till this very day. Since then, the community has been divided into two.

“Before now, there used to be one Okpakorere (most elderly man), but as of now there are two from both quarters.”

Mr. Bright Edafe, the state command’s Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the killing yesterday.
