President Muhammadu Buhari congratulated Noel Ifeanyi Alumona for receiving the AFS Award for Young Global Citizens in 2022.

The Nigerian, who is studying special education at Vanderbilt University in the United States, is the first African to receive the prize since it was established in 1914.

The prize was given to the student at the United Nations Global Communications Department, AFS Intercultural Programs, and The Youth Assembly’s International Youth Day.

Buhari praised Alumona for his generosity and selflessness, saying that he has previously created foundations to meet the needs of the physically challenged, defenseless, and underprivileged.

The Nigerian president praises his remarkable character and passion for assisting others, notably for bringing worldwide attention to his country.

He praised the awardee’s tenacious work to eradicate violence against women and girls by educating boys about ethical behavior.

A statement by spokesman Femi Adesina reads: “The President prays that the Almighty God will continue to lead, guide, and grant Alumona wisdom to serve his country and humanity.”

Alumona is an Obama Foundation Fellow, a United States Institute of Peace Fellow, and a delegate to the United Nations Youth Assembly.
