A Nigerian man identified as Ayodele Arasokun, has been convicted by the United States High Court in West Virginia over a $60million dollars tax fraud conspiracy.

This was contained in a press statement by the US Attorney’s Office, Northern District of West Virginia.

After an investigation carried out by the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA), Cybercrime Investigation Division, and the IRS-CI Los Angeles Field office, it was discovered that Arasokun orchestrated a scheme to defraud the United States by filing false tax returns totaling 1,701, and claiming the sum of $9.1 million in refund.

It was further gathered that Ayodele was monitoring about 700 U.S based accounts having more than $50 million.
During the trial, further evidence exposed that he had the Internal Revenue Service transfer money to prepaid debit cards or check the money he was monitoring.

The jury found the convict guilty of aggravated identity theft and 21 counts of fraudulent wire transfers.
The court verdict sends a clear message to criminals worldwide, says U.S Attorney Ihlenfeld. Ihlenfeld added, ‘We have the best cybercrime investigators in the world and if you tamper with our tax system, we’ll find you, extradite you and incarcerate you.

The statement added that Arosokun will remain in Eastern Regional Jail until his sentencing.
