UNIZIK Presents Awards To Supporters Of Education In Awka

For their strong commitment in building a better society through funding of education, the department of Educational Management and Policy, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka has presented awards to some distinguished personalities.

The ceremony Linkage/Alumni Home Coming and Awards Presentation held at the ASUU/NAU Secretariat of UNIZIK, Awka, attracted students, alumni of the department, politicians, academia, traditional rulers, and captains of industry among others.

Speaking during the event, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Charles Esimone, said the strength of any university globally is their alumni base and noted that the programme came at the right time and is an opportunity to attract funds to achieve his Vision200 for the university.

He noted that the alumni base has the capability to support the goals of their Alma Mater and urged other departments in UNIZIK to emulate what the department of Educational Management and Policy did in that regard.

In her welcome address, the Head of the Department of Educational Management and Policy, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka,Dr Mrs Loyce Onyali, said that the philosophy of University education among other things is premised on providing intellectual and researched based solutions to unending problems of the society.

She explained that the failure of government at all levels to adequately fund education generally and University education in particular, some men and women who are lovers of education stepped in to bridge the funding gap.
Dr Mrs Onyali further added that the ceremony Linkage/Alumni Home Coming and Awards presentation is an avenue through which the department is using to appreciate such personalities.

Earlier in his remarks, the chairman of the day, Prof Stan Udedi, reiterated that the Linkage Alumni Home Coming is a programme through which the university uses to attract the help of privileged students who have graduated from the institution for the development of education in their Alma mater.
In his paper presentation, a resource person, Barrister Nduka Nwanwenne, Commander, NAPTIP, Benin Zonal Command, Human Trafficking, said human trafficking is an evil wind that blows no one any good and no country in the world is immunned to it.

Barrister Nwanwenne spoke at length on human trafficking, its mode of operations, and impacts, saying that there is no doubt that human trafficking and irregular migration have serious implications on societal development and called on all human efforts to be geared towards bringing it to an end.

Some of the awardees include, Anambra State Commissioner for Homeland Affairs, Sir Chikodi Anarah, Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Prof Peter Umeadi, traditional ruler of Amansea, Igwe Peter Anigbogu, Member representing Njikoka II, Dr Pete Ibida, Senator Uche Ekwunife, Dr Loreta Ukeji, Dr Adaora Umeoji, Dr.Mrs Sabina Chukwunedum, an alumnus of UNIZIK and overall winner Best Education Administrator in Public Schools in Nigeria,b2022 among others.
