INEC To Issue APC’s Tinubu Certificate Of Return Today
Having declared the All Progressives Congress, APC’s candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the winner of the February 25, 2023 general election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), says the issuance of the Certificate of Return will take place later today, Wednesday 1st March, 2023 at 3pm.
The INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, who made the declaration at early hours of Wednesday, noted that Tinubu polled 8,794,726 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate, Atiku Abubakar, followed with 6,984,520, and Labour Party’s candidate, Peter Obi, came third with 6,101,533 followed by Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigerian Peoples Party, NNPP who polled 1,496,687 votes.
The INEC Chairman noted that INEC is bound by law to issue the Certificate of return to Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the APC having satisfied the requirements of the law, and had been declared the winner of the election.
The presidential election collation of results which had lasted for four days, shows the total valid votes stands at 24,250,940, total rejected Votes 939,278 while the total votes cast stood at 24,965,218.
Making the declaration, the INEC boss, said, “I now perform my responsibility as the Returning Officer for the 2023 general election. The election was contested, the candidates received the following votes APC: 8,794,726, LP:6,101,533, NNPP:1,496,687, PDP:6,984,520.
It will be recalled that half way into the collation of results, some parties led by the PDP, had staged a walk out alleging irregularities.
International observers had also alleged that the election was marred by delays in uploading the results in real time but INEC had long clarified reasons for the delay
