DSS Issues Urgent Warning to Nigerians: Terrorists Plot Attacks on Religious, Recreational Centers

In a grave concern for public safety, the Department of State Services (DSS) has raised an alarm, cautioning Nigerians about an imminent threat of terrorist attacks targeting worship and recreational centers during the upcoming Eid Kabir celebrations. The worrisome development comes in the wake of a significant discovery by security forces, unearthing 22 primed Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and seizing 486 rounds of 7.62 x39mm calibre ammunition in Nasarawa and Kogi States.
In a statement released by Dr. Peter Afunanya, the DSS spokesman, it was revealed that a joint security team, comprising the DSS, Nigerian Army, and Police, had undertaken operations in Nasarawa and Kogi States. These concerted efforts were carried out to combat the escalating threats posed by terrorists and safeguard the populace.
Highlighting the urgency of the situation, the statement implored Nigerians to exercise utmost vigilance in the lead-up to the Eid celebrations. Reports have surfaced indicating specific plans to target worship and recreational centers during this festive period, an alarming revelation further substantiated by the recovery of primed IEDs from suspected terrorists.
Dr. Afunanya urged the operators and patrons of public places, including markets and malls, to remain alert and promptly report any suspicious activities or individuals to the relevant security agencies. Furthermore, he assured the public that the DSS would continue to collaborate with sister agencies to execute proactive drills and thwart criminal activities.
During the joint operation, a notorious gang leader identified as Kabir Bala met his demise in a gun duel that took place in Kogi State. This development marks a significant victory for the security forces in their relentless pursuit of justice. The statement further revealed that the operation yielded noteworthy results, with the seizure of one AK47 rifle, three fully loaded magazines, six locally fabricated weapons, two phones, and charms from the hideout of Kabir Bala, also known as Okwo.
As Nigeria braces itself for the Eid Kabir celebrations, citizens are urged to remain cautious and cooperate with security agencies in order to ensure the safety and well-being of all. The joint efforts of the DSS, Nigerian Army, and Police demonstrate a steadfast commitment to protecting the public from the menacing threat posed by terrorists.
