HURIWA Demands Immediate Arrest of Asari-Dokubo or Threatens Nationwide Protest

The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has issued a 72-hour ultimatum to the Federal Government, demanding the immediate arrest of former Niger Delta agitator, Mujahid Asari-Dokubo.
HURIWA has warned that failure to comply with their demand will result in the mobilization of its members for a nationwide protest across all 36 states of the federation.
In a statement released on Thursday by HURIWA’s National Coordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko, the group stated that Asari-Dokubo must be apprehended by the Department of State Services (DSS) or any other relevant security agency due to his suspected involvement with the violent activities attributed to the “unknown gunmen” in the South-East region.
HURIWA further emphasized that if the Nigerian Government fails to take action against Asari-Dokubo, it would indirectly be challenging Igbo youths, Igbo supporters, and all groups advocating for the well-being of the Igbo people to engage in peaceful protests simultaneously.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was given a 72-hour deadline by HURIWA to order the arrest and investigation of Asari-Dokubo. Failure to comply with this ultimatum would lead to HURIWA organizing a protest in Abuja the following week.
HURIWA strongly believes that illegal activities should not be allowed to persist while security agencies turn a blind eye or refuse to take appropriate action. The arrest of Asari-Dokubo is seen as crucial to upholding the rule of law in Nigeria, and HURIWA asserts that Nigeria should not be seen as a Banana Republic where lawlessness prevails.
