OPINION: How FCT Minister Wike Is Transforming Nigerian Capital With Landmark Projects by Timothy Nduka
Since 1991 when Abuja became the Nigerian capital, there have been several ministers at the helms of affairs but one administrator, like the lion of the Niger-Delta, clearly stands out and tall.
Nyesom Wike, a visionary leader and a paragon of excellence is on the move again and has gained the admiration of various news agencies which are trying to catch up with his pace of bringing transformational and innovative leadership through infrastructural development to the FCT residents.
With Wike, transformation never ends; there is no doubt that he leads gallantly and undisputedly the troop of ministers in the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu.
The icing on the cake is that FCT residents can now attest to Wike’s indelible mark on Abuja’s socio-economic landscape, which has changed the narrative under his stewardship.
As FCT minister, Wike has not only completed several abandoned projects, but he has also initiated new ones, thus fulfilling the promises of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
On the 10th of June 2025, Wike invited his Excellency, President Tinubu to commission the newly rehabilitated International Conference Centre (ICC), Abuja. The Arterial road N16 (Shehu Shagari Way) from Ring Road 1 (Nnamdi Azikiwe Way) to Arterial Road Nzo (Wole Soyinka) Gishiri and other roads in Katampe District were flagged off.
Wike’s unrelenting drive and passion for results which depicts impact-politics has dazed many, both friends and foes and undisputedly given him the honour and admiration he deserves.
This is a proof to his critics that Wike is like a gold fish in a swimming pool which cannot be hidden as he shines exceptionally through unwavering commitment to deliver on his promises no matter the resistance.
Same week in June, the president commissioned the newly constructed Left-Hand service carriageway of Outer Southern Ex (OSEX) stage ll by Efab Sunshine Estate from Ring 1 Junction to Wasse junction. On Monday June 16, the newly constructed Arterical N5 (Obafemi Awolowo Way), from the Life Camp Junction to Ring Roads was commissioned, and followed the day after with the flag off of the design and construction of a new Independent National Electoral commission (INEC) Headquarters, in Maitama, Abuja.
On the same 16th Wike commissioned the Greater Abuja Water supply project. His steadfastness to repeat his signature leadership, same way at all levels of governance in the past is a testament that Wike’s leadership results are not accidents but intentional and strategic; possessing an unbeatable political and executive will to deliver the dividends of democracy.
On Wednesday, the 18th of June, the day saw the commissioning of the newly constructed Right-Hand service carriageway of inner Northern Expressway (INEX) from Ring Road 3 along INEX by Bridge over Railway lines, outer Northern Expressway (Murtala Mohamed) Expressway.
Then came the commissioning of the newly constructed collector Road N2 (Zakaria, Kyari Street), from Atterial Road Nii (Ahmadu Bello Way) in Mabushi, to judges quarters in Katampe.
On August 19th 2025, he commissioned the Phase 2 Water Treatment/Plant in Ushafa, Bwari Area council, still breathing goodwill to the residents of FCT, on the 21st of August minister Wike flagged off the 198km pipeline network to serve Bwari township, Ushafa, Kuduru, Jigo, Kuchuku and surrounding areas.
Karu was not left out as the Karu Water Project was flagged off on the 22nd of August, 2025 as part of the Water Supply Expansion Project. It is worthy of note, that these commissioning exercises are not just spectacles for public glare but an account of stewardship and testament of true spirit of nationalism which most Nigerians hail in Wike and for which, they would forever be grateful.
Wike’s vision and commitment unlike any other minister in the recent past, to delivering such quality project in record time, are no doubt hall marks of bringing his signature style of leadership to the forefront, driving projects that will have a lasting impact on the lives of residents and visitors.
In him the strength of policy met the power of personality and exposes the depth of Wike’s political magnetism and his socio-economic reforms quotient.
If Wike in two years can deliver such lofty projects to the FCT residents, there is no doubt that he will deliver more in the years ahead and transform the FCT into one of world’s enviable cities.
