The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, appeared to have thrown its weight behind the re-election bid of President Muhammadu Buhari, describing his recent declaration to continue for another four years as a “welcome development.”

However, the group’s stance, which apparently took many Nigerians aback, is for a reason, according to a statement issued by its spokesman; Comrade Emmanuel Powerful.

In the statement released by the separatist movement on Tuesday, IPOB said the President’s second-term bid was a fulfillment of the prophecy given by its leader Nnamdi Kanu, some years back.

Buttressing its point, IPOB stated that it had earlier been prophesied that Biafra would be achieved under the Buhari-led administration; hence his recent action was an indication that the actualization of the prophecy is just within touching distance.

The group affirmed that despite losing “a lot of people under the brutality of this terror APC regime,” it would not back down on its quest for a sovereign state of Biafra.

Drawing inspiration from the cases of Israelites in Egypt, Jews in Europe and Germany and blacks in apartheid South Africa; IPOB reiterated its determination to hang on to its course of achieving Biafra.

The statement reads: “This second coming of Buhari portends goodwill for freedom lovers because God Almighty Chukwu Okike Abiama wants to fulfill his divine purpose in the life of Biafrans in 2019 as foretold by our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu many years ago.

“IPOB worldwide view the decision of the bearer and custodians of the name Muhammad Buhari to seek re-election in 2019 as a welcome development. We have always maintained that the rebirth of Biafra will happen under Buhari or under whoever is answering to his name.

“No doubt we have lost a lot of people under the brutality of this terror APC regime. We also have many innocent citizens in prison and detention facilities across Nigeria with countless miscarriages of justice in their law courts, but we remain undeterred, focused and determined. Like Israelites in Egypt, Jews in Europe and Germany, blacks in apartheid South Africa, no amount of tribulation will stop us from emerging victorious as a free people at the end of this process.”

The group went on to urge other ethnic nationalities in the country seeking to secede from Nigeria not to relent in its push.

The statement added: “At IPOB we are continuing the intensification of our global campaign to peacefully bring the existence of this disastrous colonial experiment called Nigeria to an end so that millions of innocent lives will be saved.”

IPOB therefore, “advise Biafrans and other ethnic nationalities in Nigeria seeking to be free from Nigeria as created by Fredrick Laggard, to remain mentally strong and resolute for what is about to come will test our collective resolve.”

“IPOB will not relent in its pursuit for which total liberation of all territories presently under Arewa feudal Islamic bondage regardless of the human and material cost. The continued existence of this disastrous APC Government led by Major General Muhammadu Buhari and his cabal kinsmen is our passport to freedom.

Buhari’s re-election key to Igbo Presidency in 2023 – Anyim

Meanwhile, a governorship candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in Abia State during the 2015 general election Dr. Nyerere Anyim has charged Ndigbo in the country to back Buhari’s second term bid, claiming that such would facilitate clamor for an Igbo president.

“Ndigbo should support Buhari to win in 2019 and hand over to an Igbo son in 2023. Federal roads in the south East are receiving attention. They should not be deceived again by PDP who has done nothing for the South East. Some of us have been calling on Ndigbo not to cast their eggs in a basket, but we were called names in 2015. In 2019, we should repeat the same mistake, Buhari means well for a better Nigeria,” Anyim said.

Canvassing support for Buhari from the South-East dominated by people of Igbo extraction, the former governorship candidate observed that he (Buhari) deserves another four years in office, considering the poor state of things when he assumed power.

According to him, “Anyone assessing Buhari’s performance should take into account the state in which PDP landed Nigeria in the 16 years it held power. Corruption was at its height. But now, it is no longer business as usual; people are now afraid of dipping their hands into the public till. Security has improved. The dilapidated federal road under PDP is being addressed, the issue of power is getting attention. You now have steady power at Ariaria market; it’s the achievement of the APC government. You also know that the PDP in the South East has been claiming Buhari and APC’s projects as their own, but we are not worried.”
