HTA Award 2025 Celebrates African Trailblazers, Calls for Unity in Leadership
The Heroes of Tomorrow's Africa 2025 Awards Ceremony in New York City honored leaders whose efforts uplift communities and bring healing to those in despair.
The Heroes of Tomorrow’s Africa (HTA) Foundation brought together dignitaries, innovators, medical leaders, entrepreneurs, and policymakers in New York City for the 2025 HTA Awards, a ceremony that highlighted extraordinary African leaders and diaspora figures whose work is changing lives worldwide.
At the Engelman Recital Hall at Baruch College, applause echoed late into the evening as honorees expressed gratitude for the recognition and shared their vision for a brighter Africa. The HTA awards, part of the foundation’s ongoing project of recognition, are designed to highlight trailblazers who too often labor outside the global spotlight yet reshape lives and communities with their contributions.
HTA Award, Recognizing Leaders Who Inspire Change
The evening underscored the HTA Foundation’s central mission: to shine a light on individuals who embody service, sacrifice, and vision. From presidents working to redefine governance, to doctors extending healing beyond borders, to activists and storytellers lifting up marginalized voices, each honoree was a testament to what is possible when passion meets purpose.
Dr. Simbiat Adighije, recipient of the Beacon of Humanity & Healing Award, dedicated her honor to “those who were forgotten but now have hope that better days are ahead.” Her words captured the emotional spirit of the event, a recognition not only of individuals but of the communities they serve.

Beyond Awards: A Vision for African Leadership
The HTA Foundation’s impact extends far beyond the award stage. Its initiatives include mentorship programs for African youth in the diaspora, scholarships for underprivileged students, and direct support to smaller grassroots organizations that drive change at the community level.
These programs are designed to harmonize efforts across generations and sectors, bringing together some of the brightest African and diaspora minds to build networks of solidarity and opportunity. Organizers emphasized that prioritizing and developing effective African leadership is the only sustainable path toward true freedom and prosperity on the continent.
Inspiring the Next Generation
The awards ceremony also served as a clarion call for Africans worldwide to invest in mentorship, entrepreneurship, and historical awareness. HTA Foundation Chair Amos Onokevbagbe argued that Africans must reclaim their heritage of royalty, innovation, and self-determination, offering a counter-narrative to centuries of colonial and postcolonial struggles.
“By teaching young Africans that their story does not begin with slavery or exploitation, but with empires, thinkers, and innovators, the foundation aims to cultivate a generation of leaders who see themselves as heirs of greatness and custodians of the future,” said Mr. Onokevbagbe.
The Road Ahead: A Call for Support
While the HTA Foundation has already made remarkable strides, its leaders acknowledged that the journey toward continental liberation and diaspora empowerment is far from complete. Support, both financial and institutional, as well as communal, is vital to expanding scholarships, mentorship initiatives, and international networking opportunities.
The evening closed with a collective pledge: to continue celebrating African heroes while building systems that will ensure the next generation of leaders is better prepared to lead, heal, and uplift.
“The HTA Award is not the end of the story,” Said the HTA Chair, Onokevbagbe. “It is a beginning. It challenges us to do more, to dream bigger, and to work harder for the liberation of Africa and its people everywhere.”
A Movement, Not Just a Ceremony
In honoring the best among us, the HTA Foundation reminded the world that leadership is not about power but about purpose. The 2025 awards ceremony was not merely an event; it was a movement, a call to action, and a vision of what Africa and its diaspora can achieve when united under the banner of service and dignity.
