Nigeria on Thursday recorded 123 cases of COVID-19 and six deaths in a single day, bringing the total cases to over 250,000. 
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has reported 123 new cases of COVID-19.

According to the agency’s update for January 20, the new cases were recorded in 12 states.

A breakdown of the cases is shown as follows: Edo-38 Osun-25 Rivers-22 Kaduna-12 Oyo-10 Kwara-6 Ogun-3 Bauchi-2 Kano-2 Borno-1 Delta-1 Ekiti-1.

The agency said 175 people were discharged after they recovered from the infection.

Six persons died on Thursday, raising the fatality toll to 3,123.

With the new confirmed cases, Nigeria has now recorded a total of 251,694 infections and 225,455 recoveries.

Meanwhile, New Zealand has announced that it will be extending COVID-19 isolation requirements to 14 days in light of the spread of the Omicron variant.

“To help address the increased infectiousness of Omicron, as an interim measure the isolation time for all Covid-19 cases is being extended to 14 days. It was previously ten days,” the ministry of health said in a statement.
