The Federal Government said the suspension on the removal of fuel subsidy would last for 18 months.

It said the subsidy on the fuel will remain pending an amendment in the Petroleum Industry Act will be forwarded to the National Assembly.

Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva hinted at this while speaking on State House Correspondents in Abuja on Tuesday.

According to him, President Muhammadu Buhari approved the extension in the subsidy removal to allow the government to put necessary palliatives in place.

He added that the rehabilitation of the refineries are ongoing, while the Dangote refinery is almost coming on stream.

The Federal government has turned down its initial plan to remove subsidy on fuel after Nigerians condemned the move.
