Another Schoolgirl, Gambo Murdered In Kano Week After Hanifa Abubakar

A 12-year-old girl, Zuwaira Gambo has been killed in Kano State, Governor Abdullahi Ganduje said. 

This comes amid calls for justice for five-year-old Hanifa Abubakar who was recently murdered by the proprietor of her school. 

The school proprietor, Abdulmalik Muhammad Tanko, who is the proprietor of Noble Kids Comprehensive College, Kwanan Dakata in Kano had confessed to kidnapping and subsequently the killing of the minor with rat poison.

There has been widespread outrage over Hanifa’s murder, with #JusticeForHanifa trending on social media for days.

Hanifa was kidnapped on December 4, 2021, and murdered two weeks later; her body was dismembered and buried on her former school’s premises.

Tanko was arrested by the police while trying to collect the N6million ransom he demanded from little Hanifa’s parents. 

Governor Ganduje announced the murder of another schoolgirl, Gambo at the Government House on Wednesday.

He stated this when he received the Executive Secretary, National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Tony Ojukwu, represented by a Commissioner, Abubakar Muhammad.

The federal agency’s leadership visited Ganduje on a condolence visit over the death of Hanifa.

“There is another case of one Zuwaira Gambo, 12 years old, who was also murdered,” Ganduje said.

He, however, said the perpetrator had been arrested by security agents.

“The case is going hand in hand with that of Hanifa. We are committed to seeing that justice is done,” he said.
