Yoruba people across Nigeria have hailed the release of the Yoruba Nation Activist, Sunday Adeyemo popularly known as Sunday Igboho.

Igboho’s release was revealed in a statement obtained by Caracal Reports, from Maxwell Adeleye, Communications Secretary to Ilana Omo Oodua Worldwide.
“The Activist was released on Monday to a Yoruba Leader and Leader of the Umbrella body of Yoruba Self-determination Groups, Ilana Omo Oodua Worldwide, Professor Banji Akintoye and a French Language Expert/ Deputy Alana of Ilana Omo Oodua Worldwide, Professor Wale Adeniran.
“Akintoye described the release of Ighoho as a Triumph of Truth over Darkness in Yoruba Land.”

Reacting to this, Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere, said the victory is for self-determination.

Afenifere which spoke through its National Publicity Secretary, Jared Ajayi, said that the socio-political body and people of the Southwest are happy over the agitator’s release.

“Sunday Adeyemo Igboho’s release is not just for him and the Yoruba people, it is a victory indicator for all those who believe in personal liberty and the right of a given people to self-determination”.

Meanwhile, some Yoruba indigenes have said Igboho’s release was an indication that the Yoruba Nation will come to stay soon.

Olufemi Adeoba, while speaking with Caracal Reports, said “Igboho’s release showed that the Yoruba Nation is coming soon. Despite the efforts of the Nigerian Government to ensure things get bad for him, God came in and release him because of the Yoruba people. God that delivered the Egypts in the bible will deliver us from this bad government in Nigeria and he has started already with Igboho’s release.

Another indigene, Folake Fatoba, said “Sunday Igboho’s release is an assurance that the Yoruba nation will come one day. Rome was not built in a day, it was gradually. Look at Mandela’s case, so we expect what happened to Igboho, and we believe there shall be light at the end of the tunnel. His victory is surely for the Yoruba nation.

Meanwhile, Igboho’s lawyer, Yomi Alliyu, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, said in a statement Monday that Sunday Igboho’s release was under the agreement that he should not leave the medical centre or Cotonou for any reason.

“I am to inform you that Chief Sunday Adeyemo, a.k.a Igboho, has been released from prison to his medical practitioners under the agreement that he should not leave the medical centre or Cotonou for any reason.

“Praises should be given to two prominent Yoruba personalities to wit: Prof. Wole Soyinka and Prof. Akintoye for this turnaround in our client’s matter,” he said.

Recall that Igboho and his wife, Ropo, were arrested on Monday, July 19, 2021, by the International Criminal Police Organisation at the Cadjèhoun Airport in Cotonou, the Republic of Benin on their way to Germany.
