Three of the 26 kidnapped victims were slain by bandits on Tuesday after their relatives failed to pay the N20 million ransom demanded.

On March 22, 2022, bandits raided Ungwan Bulus in Kaduna State’s Chikun Local Government Area and abducted 26 civilians.

They demanded a ransom of N20 million from the relatives of the kidnapped victims a few days later.

The family who could not pay the ransom, on the other hand, appealed for a decrease in the amount.

The robbers were enraged by the victims’ family asking for a lower ransom, so they killed three people and threatened to kill more if the ransom was not paid within 24 hours.

Gideon Haruna Goni, the Chief of Ungwan Bulus, who confirmed the three victims’ deaths, claimed the bandits called the community to tell them to pick the bodies up near Dutse Community on the Kaduna-Abuja route.

The corpses had been retrieved, according to the Chief, who added that the bandits had threatened to execute the remaining victims if the family did not pay N20 million each for the other prisoners by 12 p.m. on Wednesday, April 20, 2022.

“We banded together as a community, donated some money, and they phoned us and instructed us to go to Dutse and pick up the bodies of victims.” If their demands are not granted, they have threatened to kill additional people, particularly women. “There were 26 abductions, one release, and three deaths,” he stated.

He explained that the employee who was released was deemed unfit for duty due to health concerns.

The chief, who pleaded with the abductors not to kill any of the victims, also pleaded for help from the state and federal governments.

ASP Jalige Mohammed, the Public Relations Officer for the State Police Command, did not return his calls.
