Students have been reminded not to do anything that could jeopardize their dreams and ambitions.

Adeyemi Azeez, the Special Assistant to Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State on Students’ Matters, spoke during the Annual Ramadan lecture and special prayers for the state held at the June 12 Cultural Center in Abeokuta.

According to Adeyemi, the rise of ritual killings, cybercrimes, drug addiction, rape, and other social vices among Nigerian teenagers should be perplexing to everyone in the country, since these are behaviors that are detrimental to a prosperous future.

He chastised parents who escorted their children to schools in order to attack teachers, stating that the Ogun State Government has put an end to this.

“You will agree with me that we must all do all that is within our capacity to restore the lost glory of this country by returning to God.

“The youth must constantly be engaged from time to time. They must steer clear of those destructive tendencies like cultism, issues of drug, indecent dressing, ritual killings, rape and the likes that could hinder them from achieving their purpose in life,” Adeyemi said.

The guest lecturer and Chief Imam of An-Sar-U-deen Central Mosque, Owode Yewa, Sheikh Olasunkanmi Ewuoso, who spoke on the theme of ‘Maintaining Your Sanity In An Insane World,’ claimed the growth in societal vices was a result of bad parenting.

The preacher claimed that if the family institution is in disorder, the society’s peaceful cohabitation, economic progress, and national security will be jeopardized.

Ewuoso emphasized the urgent need to restore excellent parenting as a cornerstone to combating all types of social misbehaviors, encouraging the government to impose strict adherence to legislation to curb bad behavior in society.

He advocated for social media regulation, claiming that without it, it will cause more harm than good.

He expressed regret that “the new generation believes education is a scam,” expressing concern that the present generation now celebrates immorality.

The Islamic scholar added that promiscuity, drug abuse, cybercrime, cultism and others are acts destroying the world.

“There must be functional economic, family, political and religious institutions; if there is a problem with any of the institutions, there will be a problem.

“If we have missed it at the level of family institution, other institutions will be affected. The solution is to go back to the basis, by abiding in Islamic child upbringing formula,” he said.
