Professor Abdulrahman Oloyede, an Islamic cleric, has urged Nigerian politicians to remember civilians in their interactions so that they might live freely.

Oloyede, the Chief Imam of the University of Ibadan, provided this counsel during his Eld-Fitri holiday speech on Monday in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, just after leading the Muslim crowd in the two Rakah required prayers.

Senator Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja, the state’s former governor; Senator Teslim Folarin, the state’s former Secretary of State Government, Chief Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli; and other prominent Muslims in the state attended the Eid prayer.

On Monday, Muslims all around the world celebrate the Eid-el-Fitri holiday, which marks the completion of the one-month Ramadan fast.

During his speech, Oloyede exhorted the political elite to abstain from all immoral activities, just as they did during Ramadan.

The monk, who expressed his displeasure with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUUcontinuing )’s protest, asked that politicians remember the people so that they can walk freely among them.

Professor of Arabic and Islamic studies at the University of Ibadan noted that the government’s inability to find a solution to the prolonged ASUU strike, which began over three months ago, is concerning.

Oloyede said, “The political class, you should remember the citizens for you to walk freely.

“Lecturers have been on strike for over three months and no one is talking. That shows that our country is not well. That shows that our country is not well.

“As we approach the 2023 elections, you should remember the citizens. If you don’t remember them, you will not be able to walk freely.

“This Eld Fitri is the one that precedes the elections, we appeal to the politicians to shun the evil deeds the way they shunned them during Ramadan. We want you to tow the path of good.
“The citizens should be prayerful, you should not look for qualities. It has failed us. We should pray to God to give us good leaders”.
