CBN speaks on alleged sack of Emefiele

The Nigerian Central Bank, CBN, has denied that its Governor, Godwin Emefiele, was fired.

President Muhammadu Buhari removed the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, according to many internet media outlets, notably blogs.

While some social media users feel the president should wait for parliamentary approval before dismissing the governor, others have continued to disseminate rumors about his dismissal.

However, Osita Nwanisiobi, the Central Bank’s Head of Corporate Communications, denied the rumored dismissal.

“I heard it precisely the way you received it too,” Osita replied, denying the report. It’s a rumor, as far as I’m concerned; I’m not aware of any sack.”

According to information obtained, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria has been under pressure since declaring his interest in running for President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 2023.

Some stakeholders had demanded his dismissal due to his political politics.
