Brigadier General Mohammed Fadah, Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has warned corps members not to use social media to spread fake news.
Fadah issued the warning while declaring open the 2022 Batch ‘B’ Stream I Orientation Course in Asaya camp, Kogi State, on Tuesday.

The DG, who was represented by the Kogi State Coordinator of NYSC, Mrs Mofoluwasho Adebimpe Williams, stated that serving corp members should promote national unity and development rather than fomenting hatred or other negative vices.

“One of the objectives of NYSC is the promotion of national unity and integration. Hence, your deployment away from your States of origin and your assemblage here from diverse ethnic, religious and socio-economic backgrounds.

“This policy will not only offer you the opportunity for a broader understanding of the country, but also entrench the culture of working together in an atmosphere filled with friendship, peace, harmony, and a shared vision of a great and prosperous Nigeria,” he said.

While cautioning corp members to avoid cultism, drug abuse, and other social vices, the NYSC DG advised them to be security conscious at all times and report any suspicious characters or activities in their surroundings.

He also used the medium to urge stakeholders to support the call for the establishment of the NYSC Trust Fund, which is currently in the legislative process.
According to him, this will improve the scheme’s smooth operation, particularly by addressing infrastructure challenges and providing start-up capital for corps members.

“May I also request all Stakeholders to render support towards the success of our Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD), which is aimed at providing easier access to free and qualitative health care, especially for the rural poor,” he added.
