BREAKING: FG lifts ban on international basketball competitions
The Federal Government reversed its decision to ban Nigeria’s basketball squad from all international events on Thursday. This was revealed by Ismaila Abubakar, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, during a conference in Abuja on Thursday.
According to Abubakar, the current judgment is based on a letter of appeal filed by Mr Musa Kida from the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF).
He stated that the decision was motivated by the participation of concerned stakeholders, former Nigerian international basketball players, and well-meaning Nigerians seeking answers to the concerns.
Nigeria’s withdrawal from all international basketball events was approved by President Muhammadu Buhari in May.
Sunday Dare, Minister of Youth and Sports Development, who verified the news, stated that the ban will be in effect for two years.
He had stated that the development will let the administration to focus on efforts to revitalize the sport.
