EXCLUSIVE: Top officials allegedly embezzle NSCDC allowances for Ekiti election, angry officers kick

Top officials of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have allegedly embezzled the allowances meant to be paid to officers who were deployed from other states to Ekiti State for the June 18, 2022 governorship election.

The affected officers, who said their colleagues in other security agencies have been paid, are presently lamenting and threatening to boycott the July Osun State election, Caracal Reports has learnt.

The NSCDC deployed 9,747 personnel drawn from the Federal Capital Territory, Lagos, Ondo, Ogun, Osun, Oyo, Kogi, Kwara and Edo commands to provide security during the governorship poll.

“We were not even given accommodation in Ekiti. We sorted ourselves out and we risked our necks to ensure that everything went well. Our colleagues in the police, and the Nigerian Army have been paid. Why is our own different?” one of the officers lamented.

Some other officers who spoke with Caracal Reports vowed to boycott the July 16 governorship poll in Osun State if the authorities failed to pay them their allowances.

“The money was supposed to be paid into their individual accounts, but the NSCDC keeps stretching our hopes. The personnel of the Nigeria Police Force got their allowance paid to them on Friday, June 17, a day before the election. There was no official communication as to the reasons for the delay in the payment of ours. We suspect embezzlement. Later on, when they pay the money, they may have deducted from it,” another officer narrated.

“The amount varies from one level to another. Using the police as a model, the least officer that participated got N40,000,” Caracal Reports was told.

Meanwhile, top officials from the NSCDC denied embezzlement while blaming the delay on the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation in Abuja.

“The Commandant General (CG) of the agency and top officials are doing everything possible to make the authorities release the funds,” one of the officials said.
