As opposed to the rumored date, Ramon Abbas, also known as Hushpuppi, a prominent figure on social media, will likely be sentenced on Monday.

In the United States, Hushpuppi was reportedly sentenced to 11 years in prison on Friday, but the BBC has debunked those stories.

Hushpuppi is a reputed internet fraudster from Nigeria who was detained in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, in June 2020. On July 3, he was extradited to the United States. He was taken into custody for scamming more than 1.9 million individuals, the majority of them were Americans.

The 37-year-old had admitted guilt to all of the accusations made against him.

Hushpuppi and his accomplice pretended to be bank officials and set up a fraudulent website in order to finance a school, according to an earlier statement by acting US Attorney Tracy Wilkinson. In order to maintain the complex pretense, he was also charged with bribing foreign officials.

The sentencing was delayed to Monday, November 7, 2022 by trial judge Otis Wright of the US Central District Court in California in October 2022.

“Counsels are notified, the sentencing is continued to November 7, 2022 at 11.30 am. as to Defendant Ramon Olorunwa Abbas,” the court announcement shifting the sentencing read.
