Dr Mike Ezekhome, SAN, has advocated for the adoption of a unicameral legislature rather than the bicameral system that the country already has.

He made the call while speaking at the annual Zik Lecture Series held at the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, auditorium, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State on Wednesday.

Ezekhome who was the keynote speaker at the event spoke on the theme, “Nigeria in the Throes of Insecurity Towards 2023: Any Panacea”. He detailed the history of the formation of Nigeria, through her independence and down to her present situation, noting the country is bedeviled by bad governance.

He said, “We should scrap totally the 360 members of the House of Representatives and let us have a unicameral National Assembly rather than a bicameral one or in the absence (you know Nigerians we love positions) of that, let us have part-time legislative form, which means you are paid sitting allowance whenever you sit.”

Ezekhome added that the problem of Nigeria is bad leadership and even more troubling is bad followership. He implored on the government to be more accountable and dismiss anyone with questionable character.

Also speaking at the event, the governor of Delta State and the vice-presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, commended the organizers of the event for the initiative to immortalize the Late Azikiwe.

Renowned poet, Dike Chukwumerije called on citizens of the country to change the situation of bad governance by electing credible leaders.
