Ozokohme asks Buhari to free Kanu, says keeping him in detention against court orders insensitive

According to Mike Ozokohme, the principal lawyer for Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the arrested IPOB leader, it was the height of insensitivity to keep Kanu in custody in spite of court orders.

The respected lawyer reminded President Muhammadu Buhari that the court had ordered Kanu’s unconditional release in his remarks after receiving the Doctor of Law (Honoris Causa) degree from the Abia State University Uturu.

He further reminded the President that the Court of Appeal’s decision ordering Kanu’s freedom called for his immediate release and stipulated that he should never again be hauled before a Nigerian court.

Buhari should respect court orders by following judgments, according to Ozokohme.

In order to improve Nigeria’s reputation abroad, he pleaded on Nigerians to pressure Buhari to end any future delays in obeying court judgments.

The continued detention of the IPOB leader, according to Ozokohme, who claimed Kanu’s legal team had dismissed all 15 allegations against him, is unlawful.

“This insensitive and uncaring government has kept Kanu in DSS detention in a solitary confinement. This is injustice”, he said.

Ozokohme pleaded with President Buhari to release Kanu prior to his resignation.
