Morticians work in the morgues or mortuaries and are specialized in taking care of dead human bodies right from the day the bodies are brought to them until the burial day.

Our reporter visited Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Teaching Hospital, COOUTH, Amaku-Awka, Anambra State for a media chat with them.
The COOUTH mortuary has three morticians with decades of experience in preparing and preserving dead bodies to look as much life-like as possible till the day of interment.  Aside the three morticians, the hospital also has a Supervisor, Mr Eva Ezeh, that oversees the day to day smooth running of the mortuary.
Speaking with the CaracalReports, the Supervisor, Mr Ezeh, outlined the work schedule to include reception of corpses, tagging, labeling, computer and manual documentation, preservation or emballment of the corpses which are of two methods, cold or dry, body bagging among others.
When asked his reason for taking up the job, the Supervisor who is a medical laboratory scientist,  said he did it because of his zeal to bring professionalism into mortuary services and to accord respect and dignity to dead bodies.
The Chief Mortician of the mortuary, Mr Chilune Nwoha, explained that he derives joy in taking care of dead bodies and also revealed that in his twenty-eighty years in mortuary services, he has never experienced any strange or weird happenings in the course of doing his job.
He further said that he does not do any special thing, like using a hard object to knock at the mortuary door  before entering the mortuary and all the people he trained over the years he did not train them to do such.
Another mortician, Mr Ben Wreath, a Liberian, said his parents have no objections to his choice of career, that in fact in Liberia, they have schools that train people who are interested in mortuary services for one year six months and also said that he has never experienced any strange happenings in his fifteen years of doing the job.
