The European Union (EU) Chief Observer in Nigeria’s 2023 general elections, Barry Andrews, has told journalists in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja that no fewer than 21 persons were killed across the country in electoral violence during the Saturday’s Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections.

While giving the brief on their findings during the elections, Barry said that there was massive voter apathy which he said was mainly because voters’ expectations during the February 25 presidential and National Assembly elections were not met.

He further explained that there were records of vote buying in several parts of the country.

The EU Chief Observer however commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for what he described as an improvement in its logistics arrangements.

According to Barry, INEC did better in the conduct of the governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections through the deployment of staff and usage of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS).
