President Muhammadu Buhari chaired his final Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, bidding farewell to his ministers and expressing his eagerness to return to his cattle-rearing business in Daura, Katsina state.

The valedictory meeting, held behind closed doors for six hours, served as an opportunity for the president to extend his gratitude to his loyal ministers and reflect on the accomplishments of his regime.
In a heartfelt address delivered at the forecourt of the Presidential Villa in Abuja, President Buhari acknowledged the dedication and steadfastness displayed by his ministers in pursuing the goals of his administration since 2015. He commended their commitment and called for continued support for the incoming administration led by Bola Tinubu, even from those who would no longer be directly involved in the government.
Amidst expressions of appreciation from the ministers, President Buhari urged everyone to approach the transition with a spirit of unity and understanding. He emphasized that disagreements and differences of opinion during their time together were ultimately aimed at serving the greater good of the nation. The president encouraged his colleagues to let go of any lingering grievances, urging them to remain united and supportive of the All Progressives Congress, the party that provided them with the platform to serve.
Recognizing the achievements of his regime, President Buhari attributed their success to divine intervention and expressed gratitude for the strength and unity that had sustained them throughout their tenure. He acknowledged that there were still unfulfilled personal endeavors awaiting him, mentioning his longing to resume his beloved pastime of tending to his cattle.
Following the FEC meeting, President Buhari met with the members of the State House Staff, extending his appreciation for their cooperation and assuring them that they had not been denied any entitled benefits throughout his eight years in office. He thanked them for their patience and reaffirmed his commitment to leading with integrity and transparency.
Dismissing rumors of the council’s dissolution, Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, clarified that the FEC remained in force. He stated that the President had instructed all ministers to continue their work until May 29, 2023, while refuting false reports circulating regarding the council’s status.
As President Buhari concluded his term, he conveyed his sincere gratitude to his ministers and staff, highlighting the collective efforts and achievements of their time in office. His parting words resonated with a spirit of unity and called for continued support to advance the nation’s progress.
