Nasir Idris-led Committee Pledges Relief Measures Following Subsidy Removal

In a crucial meeting held in Abuja, the Chairman of the Palliative Committee on Subsidy Removal, Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State, along with Governors Bala Mohammed, Charles Soludo, Uba Sani, and Hyacindu Alia, alongside representatives from Organised Labour and Civil Society Organisations, discussed the implementation of relief measures to alleviate the impact of subsidy removal on Nigerians.

With the recent decision to remove subsidies, concerns over its effects on citizens have been widespread. Governor Nasir Idris, expressing empathy for the plight of Nigerians, assured the public that the committee is working diligently to address the challenges posed by this policy shift. In a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Ahmed Idris, the committee’s commitment to finding effective solutions was emphasized.

“The committee sat and deliberated on possible ways to cushion the effects of subsidy removal, and very soon Nigerians will start reaping the benefits of this,” Governor Nasir Idris stated confidently. “We are determined to come up with a good and suitable outcome that will benefit Nigerians; therefore, rest assured that the committee is up to the task. All we need is patience, support, and cooperation from all Nigerians to enable us to achieve the set goals and objectives established by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he added.

It is noteworthy that following the discussions between the federal government and the leadership of the NLC and the TUC on June 19, it was agreed that all issues and demands related to palliatives should be addressed within eight weeks.

As the committee continues its efforts to provide relief measures and mitigate the challenges arising from subsidy removal, Nigerians can find solace in the assurance given by Governor Nasir Idris and his team.
