Presidential tribunal strikes out Labour Party’s petition on Over-voting

The Labour Party’s petition has been struck out by the presidential tribunal panel.

The panel said the Labour Party failed to specify where over-voting occurred and the margin of lead of who won.

The tribunal said the party also failed to show polling units where their votes were reduced.

“The Labour Party did not state the lawful figure they claimed they won,” the panel said.

“They merely made general statements of irregularities and said they will rely on spreadsheet, inspection report and forensic analysis and they were not attached in their petition.”

The Allied Peoples Movement (APM)’s petition challenging double nomination of vice-President, Kashim Shettima had earlier been struck out by the Presidential Election Tribunal in Abuja.

Justice Haruna Tsammani, chairman of the panel, read out the ruling.

The tribunal held that the issue of double nomination of any candidate was a pre-election matter.

According to Tsammani, the APM lacks the locus standi to challenge the nomination of the candidates of another political party.
